Open Honours Boys

Mr Read’s Team: Yr 11/12 Boys

Today was a long day for the boys with an early start out at Dandenong before a duty, big break and a late game.

Game 1 saw us up against Mazenod. The boys welcomed Trent back into the team with loving arms and he didn’t disappoint hitting several big winners and getting a nice run of jump serves as the boys got off on the right foot with a comfortable 3-0 win.

After our big break we took the court to verse a very young and developing Billanook team.  The boys showed the effects of the long break, struggling to get into rhythm throughout the game but showing a lot of grit and determination to win 3-0 despite being down by 5-7 points at various stages in all 3 sets.

Tomorrow is a big day with games against Heathfield and Craigslea who throughout the years we have seen many great battles with.

Today saw us in the Pool of Death with us, Craigslea and Heathfield all playing each other.

The boys were awesome all day with everyone playing their role and trusting those around them to do theirs.  Our high level of play gained us many compliments and respect, including the Heathfield coach who said he had not seen a junior team play that style of volleyball consistently ever.  And he has been coaching for more than 20 years.

Today was a very rewarding day for all the hard work they have put in and it sets us up to control our own destiny.

Tomorrow sees us face the New Zealand team Otumoetai and Queenslanders Browns Plains to round out our pool games, with another good day we have the chance to top our pool and go straight to the semi-finals.

Well done to all the boys today!

First up today we had the New Zealand team Otumoetai.  The boys again came out firing and recorded a comfortable 3-0 win which assured us top spot in our pool and safe passage to the semi-finals, skipping the repechargers stage.  We then had our last pool game against Browns Plains and despite some rotation changes to rest some of the boys who were getting sore, the boys remained focused and recorded a solid 3-0 win.  Wrapping up the pool stage with a perfect 6-0 record and without dropping a set which is an amazing achievement considering how tough our pool was and is a credit to the boys for the hard work they have put in this year and the teamwork and focus they have displayed this week.

Semi-final at 500pm local time tomorrow for a spot in the final!!!!!
