We are currently at Melbourne airport waiting for our flights back to hot and steamy Perth. Apologies for the lack of update for the end half of yesterday, there were too many games to cheer for and then it was all go go go after a late 8:30pm finish to the closing ceremony.
If you don’t already know this is what you missed –
Open honours boys got silver in a nail biting 5 set game. The crowd atmosphere on the show courts was out of control with a sea of the rossmoyne black on one side and the healthfield purple on the other side. Well done to the boys for putting on a great show, your volleyball is most certainly inspirational for the younger students! A special mention must also go to the year 12 boys and girls for their contribution to the volleyball program over the past 5 years – thank you and good luck with your future goals. We hope you continue to play/coach/enjoy volleyball for many years to come!
U/17 boys (Jack and Robyn’s team) won GOLD in an extremely convincing 3 set win against Heathfield. The boys were just too good for their competition-showing total class on the court. Special mention to Moses who had arguably the best set of his career, dominating the front court with countless shutdown blocks! Well done boys, were guys were awesome!
U/16 honours boys (Mickys and Bens team) won BRONZE in 4 sets. They had a very shaky first set-possibly a bit of a hangover from the disappointment of a tough 5 set loss in the semi final. The boys then gradually picked themselves up to then absolutely demolish the opposition (Redlands high school) in the 3rd set and then finished the job in the 4th set. The boys showed real character to be able to pick themselves up from a disheartening loss before hand-great stuff boys!
U/14 div 2 boys – the boys lost to Singapore in straight sets however still won gold due to Singapore being in-eligible for medals. Despite this the boys were such a solid team throughout the week-totally dominating all the Aussie school teams. Well done!
U/14 Girls (Miss Baches) team- here I get to brag about my totally awesome group of year 8 girls. We won GOLD in a straight sets victory, making us completely undefeated the whole tournament, we did not lose a single set. AMAZING. The first set was extremely close, we were 7 points down at one stage and I was getting concerned that things could fall apart as we hadn’t experienced loss yet. However, we kept siding out and chipping away and then Ella Hartley got an amazing block that saw the game swing back into our control. We won the set 26-24. I then knew they girls would crush Craigslea in the 2nd set…and crush they did. Set score was 25-10 and we win the game. I am totally floored at how consistently the girls played all week, proud doesn’t begin to describe how I felt at the end of the game/week! This was my 10th year coaching for Rosssmoyne and it is the first time I have ever won a medal as a coach, and what a way to do it! Thank you girls for such a great year!
We also had 2 MVPs (most valuable players) from Rossmoyne- MOMOKA HADDRELL and CAMERON FAHEY! Big Congrats!
The overall school result saw Rossmoyne finish 3rd overall! Last year we came 5th, so this is an awesome effort by all players, coaches, drivers and staff!
